About this Campaign
In less than 72 hours after the launch of the community challenge, we raised US$31,261 / 217,908 RMB and unlocked the goal. Our friend of NYU Shanghai has donated US$10,000 to Give2Asia, US$3,000 to GlobalGiving, 50,000RMB to the Shanghai Charity Foundation. Donor receipts have been provided to the organizing committee.
A special thank you to one of our Class of 2019 alumni who donated US$53,421/374,000RMB in medical supplies.
An anonymous donor has challenged NYU Shanghai and the greater NYU community to raise US$30,000/210,000 RMB to support the people of Wuhan in their struggle against the 2019nCov viral epidemic. Medical supplies and other aid are desperately needed. If we meet the challenge target, the donor will boost our community’s contribution by another US$20,000/140,000RMB.
We are calling this fundraiser the "Light a Lantern for Wuhan" Challenge. As you know, in Chinese culture, the lighting of a lantern symbolizes hope and a new beginning. We all can do our part to bring hope and assistance to the people of Wuhan.
Here’s how you can participate:
Step 1: Donate – Any sum to any organization of your choosing that is doing relief work for the Wuhan virus outbreak. Below are a few organizations that we have identified, but any donation to any relevant organization counts.

Step 3: Promote - Tag your friends on social media and ask them to join. Feel free to use the following sample text in your call to action:
"My name is XX and I am a student at [NYU Shanghai][NYU Abu Dhabi][NYU New York]. I am calling upon all my friends and family to help support the people of Wuhan during these extremely challenging times.
Please contribute to the “Light a Lantern for Wuhan” match challenge. If we are able to raise $30,000, an anonymous individual has committed to contribute another $20,000. And we are already halfway to that $30,000 goal!
Donate to any organization that is providing relief to Wuhan. (Please be sure to do your own due diligence to make sure you are comfortable with your chosen organization.) Listed below are organizations that the initiators of this campaign have already donated to. If you’ve already donated, that still counts!!! Send a screenshot to firstname.lastname@example.org or fill out this form.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself and why is this so important (insert personal narrative)...."
